SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. (KTXL) -- Homicide detectives were at a dairy farm just outside of Galt Wednesday after a body was discovered there.
Investigators could be seen combing through piles of waste at the dairy farm on Arno Road near Highway 99 in rural south Sacramento County.
“There’s an area next to where the cows are where the waste from the cows get pushed out I think on a daily basis,” said Sacramento County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tess Deterding. “So manure, urine into a pool where at least a couple times a year.”
That’s where investigators say the body of an unidentified man was found around 10 a.m.
“One of the employees was doing some cleaning out of a manure and waste area of the dairy farm when they discovered a human body,” Sgt. Deterding said.
Deterding said the body appeared to have been there for some time. She said the body was found partially submerged in an area that is used to store waste.
“We don’t have a cause of death yet,” she explained. “There is no apparent trauma to the body.”

As the coroner’s van arrived to take away the man’s body, the property owners could be seen keeping a watchful eye nearby. They did not want to talk on camera. Sgt. Deterding said the farm is a long-standing, family-owned business that has been there since the 1930s.
It appears the body may have been placed on the farm and is in no way linked to the actual business, according to Deterding.
"They have been fully cooperative with us, obviously. One of the initial questions was have you had an employee gone missing recently or anything of that nature?” the sergeant said. “Their answer is no. I think they were just as surprised as anyone else to have a worker find this body on their farm.”
The Coroner’s Office is said to have a tentative identity on the man found.
Deterding confirmed the man is not a missing person out of Sacramento County.
The circumstances leading up to the man’s death and his identity are still unclear. Right now, it is being investigated as a suspicious death.
“Until we can determine that, in fact, it is not a homicide and was some type of an accident or other circumstance,” Deterding explained.
That information and the cause of death will be released by the Coroner’s Office in the upcoming days.
