Sheriff’s office investigating deadly shooting outside Stockton gas station

STOCKTON, Calif. (KTXL) — The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide that occurred Saturday at an East Stockton gas station.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies arrived at a “chaotic scene” at the corner of Fremont Street and Oro Avenue.

“The whole place was taped off and the sheriff unit vans were out front and sheriffs around here. At that time, I didn’t even know about it, anybody gets shot or nothing. I knew there was something going on,” customer Richard Williams told FOX40.

The sheriff’s office said one person was shot dead in the parking lot.

He was identified as 25-year-old Alvaro Morales-Yac.

“Very, very brazen. Very sad,” San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sandra Mendez told FOX40. “For some unknown reason, the victim was with other people outside the store. He was approached by a person he did not know, and this person just shot him, killed him on the spot.”

Investigators said no one else was injured in the shooting but the shooter got away.

“He jumped into a dark-colored Chrysler 300 that had, it’s very distinct, it has two red stripes on the sides. And they took off eastbound on Fremont Street,” Mendez explained.

Deputies were out patrolling the area Sunday actively searching for that suspect vehicle.

“If they do see it, please call our office. He is armed and dangerous so please don’t approach him,” Mendez warned.

If anyone has any information about this shooting, call the sheriff’s office at 208-468-4400.
