SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. (KTXL) — A large law enforcement presence is in the Foothill Farms community where a man is suspected of shooting and killing his mother in an apartment.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office says just before 5 p.m., deputies were called to an apartment complex situated between Auburn Boulevard and Garfield Avenue.
A woman at the senior apartment community had reported a disturbance but when deputies spoke with her, she told them everything was fine and they left.
Around 5:10 p.m., the sheriff’s office says a relative of the woman called 911 and deputies were called back to the apartment complex.
As they arrived at the complex, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Sgt. Rod Grassmann reports the woman’s son began firing at deputies and barricaded himself inside the apartment with his mother.
“Deputies arrived to make contact knocking on the door and some shots rang out,” Grassman said. “And hostage negotiators arrived and began talking to that individual.”
According to Sgt. Grassmann, the son eventually surrendered. He was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound. Grassmann could not say how he was wounded.
Deputies found the woman dead inside the apartment.
No deputies were injured in the incident.
The public has been asked to avoid the area.
