The pilot of a small plane was killed Monday night when the plane crashed in a Livermore field.

FAA officials said they received a report of control problems shortly after the single-engine Piper PA22 took off from the Livermore Municipal Airport Monday night.

Officials believe the pilot was the only person on board.

The plane crashed near North Livermore and Hartford avenues, causing a grass fire.
