SACRAMENTO — Southbound Highway 99 was shut down at 12th Avenue due to a shooting, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

Authorities say a red Cadillac Escalade was traveling on the highway when a white SUV pulled along the passenger side of the Cadilac and opened fire just before 6 p.m. Saturday evening.

Two passengers, including the driver of the red vehicle, were shot. The Cadillac was driven to a local hospital, the California Highway Patrol reports. The driver sustained minor injuries while the passenger sustained major ones.

“The white SUV and its occupants are still outstanding at this time,” the CHP said.

Highway 99 was closed for nearly three hours.

Authorities are asking for the public’s help in locating the white vehicle and its occupants. If you have any information, you can call the CHP Sacramento Center at 916-861-1300.
