An unattended suitcase at the Sunrise Mall sent explosive ordinance crews scrambling – and a teenage girl in jail.

Police got a report of a suspicious package at the mall just before 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Apparently, a suitcase was in the middle of the walkway.

Mall security, per their protocol, evacuated the mall. A Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Explosive Ordinance Disposal team soon showed up and found that the suitcase was empty.

Further investigation found that the suitcase was owned by a 15-year-old girl. Police allege that the girl put the suitcase there in order to cause a panic.

The girl was arrested by Citrus Heights PD.
