Two suspected burglars led officers on a chase Tuesday afternoon after a reported theft at a Home Depot store in Elk Grove.

According to Elk Grove Police,  store security saw the suspects take a water heater.

Investigators said the water heater never actually left the store.

One person was arrested near Laguna and Laguna Boulevard. The second person led officers on a chase in a maroon and black Chevy pickup with a trailer.

Police said officers lost sight of the truck on southbound Highway 99. The truck was reportedly speeding 90 miles per hour.

The chase picked back up when the truck was spotted without its trailer in the Galt area. According to the police, someone got out of the truck in Galt but it’s unclear if that person was detained.

The truck was ultimately stopped in Stockton with the driver arrested. Officers found the trailer near Cosumnes Oaks High School with stolen property in it. Police said it’s unclear if what was found in the trailer came from Home Depot or somewhere else.
