Police say a victim in his late teens was killed by gunfire early Sunday morning in south Sacramento.
According to the Sacramento Police Department, the shooting was reported at 2:19 a.m. near Wainscott Way, just south of Florin Road.
Officers went to the scene and were unable to find a victim, or even evidence that somebody had been hurt by the gunfire.
Police then learned the young man had been taken to a hospital to be treated for the wound. He was pronounced dead soon after reaching the hospital.
No arrests have been made in the case, and homicide detectives are reaching out to witnesses.
