A 19-year-old was found shot in a car, with police saying his friends wouldn’t take him to the hospital.

Around 1 p.m. Monday, the car pulled up in front of John Greathouse’s home near Viva Plaza and 12th Street.

Greathouse and his wife did everything they could for the teen, but they feared it was too late.

“By the time the ambulance got here, he was basically almost gone,” Greathouse said.

The teen later died. Apparently, friends in the car refused to take him to the hospital out of fear that they could arrested based on their prior records.

“That’s kind of disappointing to us because we’re here trying to help find the suspects who did this,” said Officer Joe Silva with the Stockton Police Department.

Police say this kind of thing happens all the time, but stress that they are only out to get the facts and catch those responsible.

The teen is said to have a daughter less than a year old.
