SONORA — Four thieves broke into a Sonora cannabis dispensary last week, leaving a mess behind and stealing nearly $70,000 worth of merchandise.
Hazy Bulldog Farms is hard to miss along Mono Way. The business recently opened on the busy street.
The Sonora Police Department says the crime occurred on Sept. 11 just after 4 a.m. A door at the dispensary had been pried open.
“From that they ransacked the place, broke display cases, went through office cabinets and took quite a bit of product,” said Sonora Police Sgt. Curtis Hankins.
Hankins told FOX40 officers received calls from a passerby and an alarm company alerting police of a “burglary” happening at the shop.
“The suspects eventually did put on masks and hoodies to try to conceal their identity,” Hankins explained.
Police released surveillance photos showing four male suspects getting away in what police say was a black 2015 or 2016 Honda CR-V with paper dealer plates.
“I don’t think they realized that prior to them doing the break-in, they were kind of scouting the area, that they were caught on camera without the masks on,” Hankins said.
Officers said the break-in was a bit unusual for the small town.
“Very rare, we normally don’t have burglaries at any of our businesses,” Hankins told FOX40.
The Sonora Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the people seen in the surveillance footage.
They’re also urging other businesses to stay alert.
“Make sure they have an alarm system, have it set. Video surveillance is always good, especially ones that have high definition cameras or night vision. It just helps further the investigation,” Hankins said.
The owners of the business confirmed the burglary but did not want to speak on camera about the incident.
