A teenager was arrested Tuesday after he brought a handgun to school, according to Truckee Police.

The Alder Creek Middle School eighth-grader allegedly brought the .40 caliber semi-automatic gun Monday. Officers say 14-year-old brought the gun to class to show some friends.

Police searched the student’s home and found the gun, unloaded, but “unsecured” ammunition was found nearby.

The boy was arrested at the school bus stop and booked into a juvenile detention facility.

Whether or not the boy’s parents will face charges has not yet been determined.
