ROSEVILLE -- A busy shopping center in Roseville turned into a crime scene Saturday night when police say two people were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds.

A night out playing games at Dave and Buster's was cut short for Cameron Oates. Around 11:30 p.m., Oates heard a shooting in the parking lot of the Fountains at Roseville shopping center.

"I just heard a lady say, 'Run, run, run.' So I started running toward the back," Oates told FOX40. "I just started running and I told my friends, 'Get off the machine. We got to go, we go to go.'"

Customers took cover inside of Dave and Buster's, some hiding under tables, while Oates locked himself in a back closet.

"I was nervous because I didn’t know what to do," he said. "I was like, 'Oh my gosh, oh my gosh. What should I do?' So I called my mom first to tell her, 'Hey, there’s a shooting happening.'"

He anxiously waited for several minutes, going on Facebook Live to let his friends know what was happening. In the video there is relief in his voice as police give them the all clear to come out.

Police say two victims were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. Their injuries are not life-threatening.

"At this time we don’t believe these individuals were shooting at each other," said Roseville Police Department spokesman Rob Baquera. "We believe there were other people involved. We don’t know if they know each other or don’t know each other."

While police work to figure out why this happened and who's responsible, extra security guards were on hand at the shopping center.

Oates said he just hopes the shooting victims will be OK.

"Violence is not the answer. We just got to be safe in this crazy world, as is," Oates said.

Police have not yet release a suspect or vehicle description. If you have any information regarding the incident that happened near Reserve Drive and Roseville Parkway Saturday night the Roseville Police Department asks that you contact them at 916-774-5000.
