NORTH HIGHLANDS, Calif, (KXTL). — Two men were shot in a suspected road rage incident in a neighborhood near Madison Avenue and Interstate 80 Saturday night, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

Both men were traveling in a dark-colored Lexus when they were fired upon, and the third passenger was the only person not injured by gunfire.

The victims continued driving for several miles before stopping at a Walmart on Watt Avenue parking lot to call for help.

“That’s really scary. That could’ve been anybody. Innocent people could’ve gotten hurt, especially right here with all the kids playing out. It’s truly sad,” said Dondrise Randle, an area resident.

Sgt. Rodney Grassmann said that the victims were talking when deputies arrived, and both victims are expected to survive.

“This occurred on Hillsdale, right about Tressler near the Scandia and the gas station there, while they were driving,” said Grassmann.

One homeowner said he heard six gunshots Saturday night and the sirens of first responders not long after.

Grassmann said investigators will look at surveillance videos from nearby businesses to help determine the cause of the shooting.

“Certainly could be road rage. If they were in the streets and felt like that car was too close to them, or something like that. We’ll be able to piece this all together,” he said.
