A 47-year-old UPS worker was killed after being hit by a rig driven by a fellow employee in West Sacramento.

Investigators say the incident happened about 9:15 p.m. in the parking lot of UPS’ main distribution facility for the Sacramento region.

Cal OSHA has been called to the scene and officers say the company and the driver involved are cooperating.

The employee hit was rushed to UC Davis Med Center with “significant”  injuries after being extricated from the semi according to Sgt. Kinney with the West Sacramento Police.

Friday morning, officials said the man had died from his injuries.

Kinney says at this point it does not appear that alcohol or any other substance was involved.

A donation fund has been set up for the man, who friends have identified as Kie Matsuda.
