A smash-and-grab burglar may have gotten away with more than he bargained for.

Early Thursday morning, a thief broke into Marinobles Gym in Roseville, which has helped train many champions, including one of Sacramento’s most famous champions.

Urijah Faber, who is on of MMA’s most recognizable names, had one of his early championship belts taken, along with several other items during the robbery.

“It’s kind of left as a memento, a personal memento,” explained Dave Marinobles, who has owned the gym the past 21 years.

Marinobles said he and Faber began their relationship back in 2005, when the fighter known as the “California Kid” trained at Marinobles Gym and went on to win his first three title belts.

“A title belt is something that is earned with sweat, and blood, and time, and commitment. That’s kind of a bummer thing,” he added.

Cops believe the burglar, who is described as a white male with a thin build, may have knowledge of mixed martial arts based on the memorabilia that was stolen.

“Fortunately, the sport is popular,” said Roseville Police Officer Aaron Splawn.  “So, if we can put a picture of the belt out, and a picture of the suspect, that some body can come forward.”

So far, it’s still early in their investigation.

“I feel that Urijah lost his belt, man,” expressed Marinobles.  “Urijah’s belt got stolen out of my gym, you know.”
