EL DORADO COUNTY-
Smoldering and smokey, the King Fire hit a natural barrier Sunday that’s left it vulnerable.
“The weather is really helping us out,” said Patrick Medina, Fire Fighter for the US Forest Service.
At base camp near French Meadows reservoir, fire tactics have changed because of the rain. But they have to make a battle plan there without one tool that was crucial early in this fire fight- the air attack.
“Because of visibility,” Medina said. “We’re not utilizing them. It’s been a safety call for the aviators themselves, and for the ground resources.”
But there is another natural barrier fire fighters are using to their advantage. The King Fire has burned itself into a corner in the north end, burning in an alley between French Meadow and Hell Hole Reservoirs.
The plan is to bulldoze a fire line between the two lakes, and stop it cold, right there.
