DONNER SUMMIT — Going up the slippery, slick roads of eastbound I-80, there are many people who have already started out their Thanksgiving vacation. But before they get to their destinations, they jumped out of their cars to take it all in.

The weekend storm brought in a sparkling layer of fresh, fluffy snow near Donner Lake.

This made for a perfect shot for 22-year-old photographer, David Phillips.

“It’s pretty cool to see. It’s really pretty,” Phillips said.

Anthony and Karen Damaschino from Danville are headed to their cabin in Donner Summit.

“I was snap chatting the kids. But no filter. No dog tongue, halos,” Damaschino laughed.

Rick Mottram is from Orange County. He and his family are celebrating his “29th birthday” again, taking photos things he cannot see back at home.

“It’s kind of a treat for me. It’s my birthday today, so just awesome. Beautiful,” Mottram said.
