A man barricaded himself into a propane tanker Wednesday evening in Manteca following an alleged shooting.

Manteca Police responded to a call about an accident and shots fired on Highway 99 near Austin Road. When officers arrived, they found someone suffering from a gunshot wound. The shooting victim’s injuries are described as not life-threatening.

Officers say a man was seen ditching his car after crashing into a propane business on Austin and Frontage Roads.

The man and police reportedly exchanged gunfire before the locked himself into a propane tanker. No officers were hit, and it’s not immediately clear if the man was hurt.

Manteca Police say the man and SWAT officers are in an “active dialogue.”

Gunfire, unless from a high-powered rifle, isn’t likely to pierce and explode a propane tank, let alone a propane tanker.
