STOCKTON-

Since the death of their loved one Sunday, Yvette Gutierrez and her family have been on an emotional roller coaster.

Tips led police to believe Sergio Hernandez may have been involved in the east Sonora street shooting that injured three and killed two others, including Gutierrez’s mother, Juanitia Maldonado.

“Knowing they caught someone made me feel better because I know they’re still looking into the case,” said Gutierrez.

But Thursday, Hernandez voluntarily went to police and after talking with detectives, they released him.

“My hope is that they catch the guys who did it because they took two lives,” said Gutierrez.

On Facebook, Hernandez’s family said he was innocent and that they feel for the victims’ families.

For Gutierrez and her two brothers, they want closure and hope that no one feels the loss they’re dealing with.

“We are trying to keep it together for our family. We are trying to be strong for each other,” said Gutierrez.

A fund for Maldonado’s children has been set up at http://www.gofundme.com/2d1qso
