BATTLE CREEK, Michigan (WXMI)-

A man with a rare condition that has left him with a 75-pound growth, is asking for donations to afford a much-needed surgery in California.

According to Dan Maurer’s GoFundMe.com webpage, he has Scrotal Lymphedema, and has a large growth near his scrotum. The growth hangs down to his ankles when he stands, making most day-to-day activities difficult, if not impossible.

Maurer told FOX17 about five years ago he was getting his weight under control, and had lost 50 pounds, when he noticed a growth. It swelled to the size of a cantaloupe, then kept growing.

His doctors in Michigan struggled with a diagnosis. Through research, Maurer found a doctor in California who specializes in the surgery he needs. However, the doctor is out-of-network for his insurance.

His appointment is at the end of July, and he is hoping to raise money for the costs. Find his GoFundMe page here.
