Steve Pease, the owner of Sammy’s Rockin’ Island Bar and Grill, has been found dead, friends confirm.

Chris Maudru told FOX40 that Pease’s body was found not far from his last known location – Fort Bragg.

Recreational divers swimming in the Pacific Ocean near the shore by Gualala Saturday afternoon found a body floating in the water, according to a Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office press release. While the coroner’s office hasn’t officially released the identification of the body, Maudru says it is that of Pease.

Pease had been missing since early November. Pease’s credit card was reportedly last used at a hotel in Fort Bragg on Nov. 3.

Roseville’s Community Development Corporation had loaned Pease more than $1.5 million to fix up the historic building where Sammy’s Rockin’ Island Bar and Grill eventually opened. A $9,000 check was due in late October.

It’s unknown whether or not the $1.5 million loan has anything to do with Pease’s disappearance, however.
