STOCKTON –

It’s big, over a million square feet and expensive at $839 million, but state officials say it’s worth it.

The new health care facility will temporarily house 1,722 inmates, most for days or weeks at a time.

“It frees up medical staff at other prisons to help with inmates with everyday needs and allow the weakest of inmates to come here for mandated help,” says Bill Sessa with the CDRC.

The facility is expected to open in late July.
