There will be no criminal charges against an Orangevale man who set off an explosion Sunday night in his parent’s garage, landing him in the hospital with serious injuries and leading to the evacuation of ten homes.

The man is a tinkerer and a hobbyist. His family showed FOX40 a remote controlled helicopter he had built.

The man is reportedly a former Air Force Sargent suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, trying to use what he knows to build something useful. But Sunday night, it exploded.

Before evacuees were let back into their homes, explosives experts from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department dug a hole in the home’s front yard and detonated the rest of the chemical compound the man had mixed.

Their spokesman said they wanted to make certain there wasn’t another mishap.
