Friends say 28-year-old Josiah Humphreys was walking home last night to his apartment on 18th and P streets when three men he didn’t know attacked him.

Humphreys was beaten so badly he was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

“The three of them (suspects) took off. They fled the scene. We are asking the three of them and the community to come forward and shed light on what happened that night,” said officer Michelle Gigante.

Witnesses administered CPR to Humphreys and dialed 911. Witnesses said the three men involved didn’t appear to be from the area and looked like they were out with the intent to kill.

Friends left candles and flowers at the site in loving memory of Humphreys. They say Humphreys was a Jesuit High School graduate who lived by the motto, “a man for others.”
