FRENCH CAMP-

A malfunction in San Joaquin County Sheriff’s deputies’ new guns led to personnel getting pulled off the streets Thursday.

An issue with the sear spring pin, at the top of the gun, caused two of the department’s Sig Sauer handguns to not fire properly. The malfunction was discovered on the firing range, but around 300 guns were already in circulation on the streets.

While deputies were taken off the streets to requalify for different guns, neighboring law enforcement agencies helped handle calls for service in San Joaquin County.

Sig Sauer representatives are expected in French Camp Friday to fix the issue.

Ian McDonald contributed to this report.
