Sacramento Republic FC tied against Arizona United FC Saturday night, in their last home game at Hughes stadium.
“Hughes is nice, it’s been gracious, but it’s not a great soccer field. It’s probably a great football field. Not soccer. So I can’t wait for Bonney Field,” said Ken Bensen.
Sacramento Republic is poised to open Bonnie Field, their new 8,000 seat stadium at Cal Expo during their next game on June 20th.
“We’ll be at all their games. We actually bought season tickets,” added Bonnie Bensen.
“I think they they’re gonna feel excited and they’re gonna try their best to win,” said Emma Aguilar.
But until the players get to break in their new field, fans had to sit back and enjoy the game, amid 90 degree temperatures.
“There’s lots of food trucks and vendors, lots to eat and drink,” said Aguilar.
Food vendors were sweating the most in the heat, climbing up and down the steps of the stadium.
“Actually, I’m lucky because this hard work is fun hard work,” said Andrew Gorman.
Gorman has been hawking Mr. Pops popcorn at each of Sacramento Republic’s last four home games at Hughes stadium.
“The last couple times I’ve worked, they’ve won, so, you know they’re winners,” said Gorman.
Gorman will follow the team to Bonney Field to keep fans pumped full of Mr. Pops popcorn during future home games.
