As temperatures in Sacramento scraped the underbelly of a record on the first day of the new year, dozens took to area beaches for walks, fishing and other warm weather fun.

Many of them were deeply worried about it.

“I earn my living off of Harley Davidsons. And a lot of rice farmers buy Harleys from me, and it kills me,” Kole McAdams said of the record-setting dry weather Sacramento saw in 2013.

McAdams and his sister were at Discovery Park, launching their boat for a New Year’s Day cruise.

Other boaters said it’s a day that usually sees more rain, more cloud cover, and a day that (almost) never gets so warm.

Judging by the forecast, the terribly wonderful weather is likely to continue.
