Elk Grove Veteran Receives Purple Heart

An Elk Grove man was awarded a purple heart recently, recognizing his service in Iraq.

Matt Whipple received the award during a ceremony at the California National Guard headquarters.

Whipple served from 2005 to 2006, he was injured by a roadside bomb in Iraq and sustained a severe concussion.

He is now attending school full time and plans to graduate early next year.
