Officers conducted room-to-room searches at two Colfax schools Wednesday after students reported seeing a man with a gun nearby.

After more than two hours of searching, Placer County Sheriff’s deputies and CHP officers released students and reported they didn’t find anything suspicious, or any one.

Wednesday afternoon, there were reports of students seeing a person with a gun near Colfax High School, which is less than a mile west of I-80. A few first graders described a man wearing all black holding a hand gun.

Placer County Sheriff’s deputies set up a perimeter around the schools to locate the person. They conducted room-to-room searches at the schools. The CHP is flying a helicopter overhead as part of the search.

Colfax Elementary and High School are next to each other, and both kept kids and faculty inside until 3 p.m.
