Ripon Police say a suspected car thief is in custody Tuesday after reportedly narrowly missing an officer with the stolen vehicle.
Last week, investigators say a man went inside a convenience store at a Shell gas station and left his car running. He came back out to find that the car had been stolen.
Investigators found the car behind the Ripon Fire Station. Officers say when they tried to arrest the driver, he apparently backed into a patrol car and narrowly missed an officer before running off.
The alleged thief, identified by police as 32-year-old Charles Overturf Jr. was found and arrested by a special investigation unit Tuesday.
Overturf was booked into jail for vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, battery on an officer and resisting arrest.
