The U.S. Air Force is among those looking to save a little on gas these days.

They’re doing it in a big way- to the tune of $7.3 million, thanks to a new runway-landing zone project.

Unveiled Thursday at Travis Air Force Base, the new features upgrade resources from single to triple operations.

The new landing zone means crews won’t have to fly to Washington for training – saving $35,000 in fuel costs for each mission.

The $68 million project should pay for itself within two and a half years.
