SACRAMENTO —
Chances are, you’ve never experienced an Opening Night for the Sacramento Kings quite like the one team officials have planned Oct. 30.
“Vivek (Ranadive) tasked us with making this the greatest Opening Night in the history of the NBA for a new ownership group, and I think we’re getting close to that,” said Kings Co-Owner Mark Mastrov during Thursday nights preseason game at Sleep Train Arena.
But what Mastrov, or any other team employee, won’t tell you is exactly what is planned.
“I think entertainment, former Kings players, pyro-technics,” noted Mastrov.
It’s been rumored that the entertainment could be the likes of musicians Katy Perry, or possibly Robin Thicke. The Kings, though, won’t confirm anyone. Other rumors for Opening Night: NBA Commissioner David Stern, Kings Co-Owner Shaquille O’Neal may both be in attendance.
What is for certain, the game could reach a billion fans after the Kings announced it will be televised live in India. Fans will receive a special Opening Night t-shirt, commemorative pin, and glow sticks. There will also be no shortage of emotion after fighting and keeping the Kings during the off-season.
“It’s going to be an amazing experience,” said Mastrov. “Lots of purple … wear your purple.”
