SACRAMENTO—

FOX40 has confirmed with a source within the Kings Organization that their ownership group is exploring the idea of adding Sacramento Republic FC, the city’s minor league soccer team, to it’s portfolio.

According to the source, Kings’ President Chris Granger will be in Seattle this week as representatives from Sacramento Republic FC meet with Major League Soccer representatives, in a bid to get their team into America’s premier soccer league.

Sacramento Republic has  smashed attendance records for their current league.

Republic FC spokeswoman Erika Bjork told FOX40 that the team is working hard to get into MLS.

She said there are several meetings set-up in the upcoming week, and described it as a “fluid situation.”

An infusion of cash from Vivek Ranadive and partners could help the team’s bid, as the buy-in to MLS alone could be tens of millions of dollars.

Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson will also reportedly travel with team representatives to meet with Major League Soccer officials Wednesday, but he was unavailable for comment Saturday.
