The only thing better than filling out a bracket this time of year, is being able to write down your own school’s name.

“Seeing Pacific get past Miami, and seeing how far they could go would be real cool,” said Kevin Chaney, a University of the Pacific basketball fan.

With their big win in the Big West tournament Saturday, U of P earned themselves a place at the dance.

“I have friends at bigger schools and it’s like ‘I’m in the tournament and you’re not. hahaha,'” laughed David Tomaselli.

This fifth NCAA appearance for retiring Head Coach Bob Thomason won’t be easy. Pacific drew #2 seeded Miami, one of the toughest teams out there.

“There’s always a way you can win. We haven’t played our best game yet,” said Thomason.

And that’s saying something after the Tigers won the Big West Tournament Saturday to make it into the NCAA.

“Tony Gill really showed up,” Chaney said.

And Gill, a Roseville native, is ready to do it again… at least almost ready.

“The biggest thing is the pre-game jitters,” Gill said. “But we’re taught to be focused once the game starts.”
