BLUE CANYON–

Fresh snow blanketed the Sierra Saturday evening with about 5 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service, making it the coldest winter storm of the season so far.

FOX40 found several chain controls along the I-80 going in to Lake Tahoe, with dozens of people taking advantage of the fresh powder as they headed to go skiing and snowboarding.

The snow fall calmed down around 7 p.m., but will continue Sunday evening. The national weather service has forecasted up to 2 feet of fresh snow on the Sierra slopes by Sunday night.
